Workshop
in Edgewood

Clayton County Prevent Child Abuse
Council (PCA) will be hosting a free workshop tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov.
19, in the Edgewood-Colesburg High School gym in Edgewood.
The purpose of this workshop is to define bullying, its extent in
schools and communities, and offer suggestions to reduce the incidence
and impact of bullying.
Current data identifying frequency, types of bullying and harassment
and the short and long term impact of this behavior will be presented.
Current programs and legislation as well as resources existing in
schools will be identified and discussed. Suggestions about improving
the school environment and community will be proposed. Participants
will be encouraged to engage in dialog and brainstorming as well.
Chris McCormick-Pries, ARNP, is an Advanced Registered Nurse
Practitioner and Associate Director of Research, Evaluation, and
Community Relations at Vera French Community Mental Health Center. Her
clinical work includes evaluation and therapy with children,
adolescents, and their parents. Additionally, medication assessment and
management with children is one of her responsibilities. She provides
school-based services in the North Scott School System and clinical
supervision to members of the Child/Adolescent Team at Vera French
Community Health Center. Chris is a well-known speaker in this area,
providing educational programs for parents, churches and organizations.
Registration will be from 5:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. with the presentation
from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome as protecting children
is everyone's business.
