Rebuild Iowa Commission to Meet
Posted 18 August 2008
The Rebuild Iowa Commission will
meet in Cedar Falls tomorrow, Tuesday, Aug. 19, from 2 until 5 p.m. at
the Holiday Inn, Cedar Falls University Plaza, 5826 University Avenue.
Members will continue working on an initial report on flooding damage
and the state's recovery.
The Commission's recent "Speak Up Iowa!" sessions, held across the
state, has provided the public with the opportunity to give their input
on the recovery and rebuilding process taking place across the state
following this year's devastating storms and flooding.
The input sessions initiated dialogue on the major issues facing the
State of Iowa and provide an opportunity for official public and
community involvement, with specific focus on gaining input for the RIO
45-day Report due Sept. 2.
Iowans can also submit comments online at http://www.rio.iowa.gov .
RIAC is a 15-person, bipartisan commission whose members chair nine
task forces focused on specific issues that will develop further
recommendations to support the state’s strategic recovery and
rebuilding process.
The Commission reports to Lt. Governor Patty Judge, who is executive
director of the Rebuild Iowa Office, which coordinates all state
recovery activities. Major General Ron Dardis of the Iowa National
Guard serves as the Commission's chairman.
Later this month the commission will meet over a two-day period in
Urbandale beginning Aug. 25. It is the last scheduled meeting before
the group will present its report to Gov. Chet Culver on Sept. 2.
