Detained Women from Raid Released
Posted 15 August 2008
Ten women detained in the May 12
immigration raid at the Agriprocessor's meatpacking plant in Postville
will be able to return to their homeland after being released from
custody by a federal judge.
The women were among those arrested in the immigration raid, although
they never faced criminal charges. They had been released with
electronic ankle bracelets and allowed to return to their children in
Postville while awaiting legal action.
Attorneys for the women filed motions to allow them to voluntarily
return to Guatemala and Mexico. Federal Immigration Judge James
Fujimoto of Chicago granted the request last week.
