Bentley Found Guilty in Sex Abuse Case
Posted 2 August 2008
Yesterday morning, Friday, Aug. 1,
a jury at the Clarke County Courthouse in Osceola returned a guilty
verdict in the James Bentley sex abuse case. The trial was moved from
Benton County because of pretrial publicity.
Bentley was charged with second-degree sexual abuse for his activities
with then 10-year-old Jetseta Gage of Cedar Rapids.
Bentley is already serving a 100-year federal term for taking sexually
explicit photos of Jetseta Gage and a 1-year-old girl.
Gage was kidnapped and killed by Bentley's brother, Roger, in March
2005. Roger Bentley is serving a life sentence for that crime.
Following Friday's verdict, Bentley was returned to custody with no
date set for sentencing. Under state rules, he must serve at least 70
percent of his 25 year state prison term. But since Bentley's already
in federal custody for a 100-year term, he may never actually serve the
state time
