Effigy Mounds Offers Junior Ranger Programs Posted 30 July 2008 Effigy Mounds National Monument is proud to present the annual summer Junior Ranger Program. Events for children interested in the National Park Junior Ranger program will be scheduled each Saturday morning at 10 a.m. throughout the summer. Each week the participants will be invited to learn something different about the natural world, American Indian culture, and the national park system. The weekly programs will include: August 2 - Basket Weaving August 9 - Scat, Tracks, and Native Animals August 16 - Beginning and Intermediate Scavenger Hunts August 23 - Archeology Day (pottery and ancient tools) August 30 - Nature Detective. The children will have an opportunity to earn National Park badges, patches, and certificates along with learning more about the world that surrounds them. Reservations are requested for "Basket Weaving" by calling 563-873-3491. Call now for availability in this Saturday's class. Effigy Mounds National Monument preserves over 200 prehistoric American Indian mounds, including some that are shaped as animals.
