Rally Attracts Supporters on Both Sides of Immigration
Issue
Posted 28 July 2008
Yesterday afternoon, Sunday, July
27, religious leaders and immigration rights activists paraded through
the streets of Postville in an organized protest to federal immigration
regulations and in favor of human rights.
Postville residents say their town has never been the same since the
immigration raid in May 2008. The event attracted national attention
and continues to be the epicenter of recent immigration reform activism
and discussion.
Yesterday, people from all over the country came Postville to march for
immigrants' rights. They maintain the government treated immigrants
unfairly and hope such a visual demonstration will help convince
elected officials to change the laws.
A group of counter protestors also lined the streets of the downtown
area in Postville. They shouted at the marchers and said illegal
immigrants are hurting America's economy.
