Congressional Leaders Visit Postville
Posted 28 July 2008
Members of the Congressional
Hispanic Caucus, including Representatives Luis Gutierrez, Albio Sires
and Joe Baca, visited Saint Bridget's Catholic Church in Postville on
Saturday, July 26, to hear first hand about the May 12 federal
immigration raid.
The group talked with dozens of people affected by the event. They
included women whose husbands are being detained, underage workers who
say they were employed at the plant and members of the local religious
community.
Many members of the congressional delegation were outraged with what
they heard.
Nearly 400 people were arrested during the raid at Agriprocessors, the
largest kosher meatpacking plant in the United States.
